Founded in 1971, this workshop uses traditional techniques to offer a wide range of work at reasonable prices \u0026mdash; pieces for everyday use, flower vases and sake ware. My work draws on the natural colors that come out of the firing, and values beauty within daily life.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eMy main style is Bizen ware that makes the most of those natural fired colors. The shapes are simple, but I am particular about how they feel in the hand, and I keep the design suited to everyday use.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eI knead the clay, raise the form, wait for it to dry, and fire it in a climbing kiln. I pay especially close attention to the temperature in the climbing kiln, and I have repeated trial and error many times to draw out the natural fired colors. I am also particular about the finishing after firing, working carefully by hand so that each piece is one of a kind.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAt Shoen kiln we aim to keep the tradition of Bizen ware while making pieces that suit life today. I put my heart into valuing the natural colors and textures, so that you feel the pleasure of using them day to day.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eBizen City in Okayama Prefecture is known as the home of Bizen ware. The tradition has been handed down here since long ago, and the quality of the clay and the firing techniques developed with it.
