It is made with hidasuki, a technique in which straw is wrapped around the piece before firing so that scarlet lines appear, and the lines turn out differently on every plate. The rim rises just enough, so it is an easy size for toast and croissants, baked sweets, as a serving plate, or for a small side dish.
