About Us

Who We Are

nokaze

In the Japan's historic pottery heartland, a story begins. Each piece is a one-of-a-kind creation, born from a dialogue between nature and the artisan. These artisans do not merely craft; they listen. They work with natural, materials that carry the memory of the land, shaping them into forms that feel alive. When the piece is embraced by the fire in the traditional kilns, it becomes a one-of-a-kind masterpiece that can never be replicated.

We bring these stories from Japan to wherever you call home. It is not just a cup or a plate; it is a companion for your life's most precious moments.

Our Story

Sharing the joy of encountering a story, an artisan and one-of-a-kind piece, carrying the timeless spirit of Wabi-sabi.

Nokaze began with a simple question: Why is it so hard to find authentic Japanese pottery outside of Japan?

Every Japanese piece crafted by an artisan carries a sincere heart, a deep harmony with nature, and a story unique to its historic pottery heartland. However, in a world dominated by mass production and mass consumption, the emotional connection with the object we use is losing.

We believe that when an object carries a narrative and creates an emotional connection, even the smallest moments in your daily life become more cherished. This special piece breathes the joy into your everyday life.

At nokaze, we are here to share that joy with you: the encounter with a story, an artisan, and a one-of-a-kind piece that sparks "Tokimeki"—a genuine flutter of the heart.

The Charm of Japanese Tableware

The aesthetics of
Japanese pottery and culture

侘Wabi-sabi寂

Wabi-sabi is the word at the heart of Japanese pottery — the aesthetics found in pottery that are imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete.

A piece shaped on a wheel holds the fingerprints of the hand that formed it. And the piece from the kiln carries the memory of flame: glaze pooled by heat, the surface marked by ash from the wood. No two pieces are alike, because no two moments are alike. The fire leaves its own unique mark on every surface it touches. This mark is called "Keshiki(景色)" in Japanese — the singular landscape born inside each piece. When Japanese pottery reaches your hands, it brings that "Keshiki" and a history that belongs to no one else.

And yet, a piece is not finished when it leaves the kiln. The more you use it, the more it develops a beautiful patina, naturally deepening its color over the years. This is what the Japanese call "Sodateru(育てる)": nurturing a pieces. To use a piece every day is to transform it into something only for you. That is why it grows more beautiful the longer you live with it.

景Keshiki色

To enjoy the "Keshiki" of a Japanese piece, and to nurture it — that is to enter a quiet, endless conversation with your own piece.

It changes the sense and the moment in everyday life. A morning becomes a moment worth pausing for. A meal becomes something to look forward to. The piece in your hands is not the same as it was last month — and neither are you.

What Japanese pottery brings to a life is not decoration, but presence. Your piece grows alongside you. The moment you welcome a piece into your daily life, the ordinary becomes something you never want to let go.

Our Vision

Nokaze is a marketplace where you can buy Japanese pottery directly from artists across Japan — artisans who draw on tradition, nature, and their own sensibility to create a one-of-a-kind piece.

Across Japan, tens of thousands of artisans dedicate their lives to the kiln every day. Within each piece, they weave an infinite spectrum of emotion, vision, and soul. Now, the world's interest in Japanese is growing. Yet for most of these artists, sharing their work with a global audience remains out of reach.

Even when their pieces do reach international markets, due to the supply chain and cross-border logistics, the prices of these pieces become three times or more what they sell for in Japan and it has been difficult for the artisan's heart and the true value of their work to reach the people who would love them most.

There are no borders on a love of pottery. We are here to be the bridge that carries Japanese pottery — and the heart behind it — from Japan's artists to the world.
