The mural behind the counter

The mural behind our counter was painted by OVER ALLs, the Tokyo-based mural team behind walls across Japan. A hand opening a book across the plaster: our name, a house of ceramics and stories, in one picture. Come and see it in person.

The name ·

Why we are called nokaze

Two names with the same sound live inside ours.

野 no · 風 kaze

No, the field: Japanese craft born from clay, wood and fire. Kaze, the wind: the way we live now. We carry traditional work on today's wind, to today's table.

The flute “Nokaze”

Nokaze is also the name of a flute that passed through the hands of Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu, the three men who unified Japan. Like that flute, we want to pass Japanese culture on, hand to hand, across generations.

nokaze のロゴマーク:器の輪が重なってできた桜 / The nokaze mark: rings of pottery forming a cherry blossom

Our mark layers the rims of five pieces of pottery into a cherry blossom, the flower of Japanese tradition. Its color is the brown of the clay every piece begins as.
