Mizuki

Seto City, Aichi Prefecture, is one of Japan's leading pottery production centers. In a workshop at the foot of its mountains, I create pottery with the theme of "capturing a moment of nature."

Among many things, I am drawn to waves, as no two are ever the same, and I incorporate their fleeting expressions into my vessels.

The wave patterns are expressed through a unique method born from repeated trial and error, creating the prototype of a wave from the clay itself and then imprinting its unevenness onto the surface of the vessel.

By inlaying clays of different colors and utilizing the shading of glazes created by the unevenness, I produce a three-dimensional wave that changes its expression with light, offering a depth different from painted designs.

Furthermore, I layer the colors of dawn and fleeting nature onto the blue gradation created by multiple applications of glaze.

Just as no two waves created by nature are alike, each handcrafted vessel also possesses a unique wave expression and glaze shading.
