About this Work

Works from TATA pottery studio, born from the collaboration between Daiki Tanaka, who shapes the pottery, and Kei Tanabe, the "thinking brush" who paints the pottery. We strive to create pottery that brightens daily life, featuring retro designs on easy-to-use shapes that pursue "beauty in utility."

A cute bear design is painted on an easy-to-use octagonal plate.

Artisan Story

TATA pottery studio is a collaborative unit of a ceramic artist and a painter.

Daiki Tanaka, the ceramic artist, is mainly responsible for shaping at TATA pottery studio, and Katsura Tanabe is responsible for painting.

We strive to create vessels that are easy to use and inspire affection.
Tanaka's style involves creating pottery using molds and a potter's wheel. His work is characterized by its simplicity, which reveals its beauty the more it is used. He also pays close attention to the glazes, which are specially blended to enhance the painted designs.

At TATA pottery studio, we aim to create vessels that enrich the hearts of those who use them. Our work includes both porcelain and earthenware series, each with a distinct impression, offering a variety of styles to suit individual preferences.

Katsura Tanabe, the painter, still works as a painter at a kiln in Higashiyama, Kyoto, which has been in operation for over a hundred years. This area inherits the tradition of Kiyomizu ware. The deep history of pottery in this region has also influenced our work.
