Narutaki Kiln, located in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture, is a pottery studio renowned for its ceramic works that blend the traditional beauty of Bizen ware with contemporary sensibilities.
The studio values methods that maximize the power of "earth" and "fire," which are the origins of Bizen ware. Without using glazes, the unique visual effects such as "goma" (sesame seed pattern) and "hidasuki" (scarlet marks) are created by firing at temperatures over 1200 degrees Celsius for approximately two weeks. At the same time, the studio also produces tableware that fits seamlessly into modern dining settings.
Committed to the natural finish achieved through climbing kilns, Narutaki Kiln pursues the perfection of "growing vessels" whose charm increases with use. Their works, while possessing a sense of profoundness, also evoke a certain warmth.

About this Work
We value techniques that maximize the power of "earth" and "fire," which are the origins of Bizen ware. While the appeal lies in the unique "goma" (sesame seed-like patterns) and "hidasuki" (scarlet cord-like patterns) created by firing at temperatures exceeding 1200 degrees Celsius for about two weeks without using glazes, we also create tableware that fits into modern dining settings. We are committed to the natural firing process of a climbing kiln, pursuing perfection as "nurturing vessels" that grow more appealing with use. Our pieces are substantial yet possess a certain warmth.
The saucer measures 14cm in length and width, and 1cm in height.
