Gray Japanese Tableware

Gray is the least assertive colour there is. It does not compete with the food, the cloth, or the colour of the room.

There are not many here. Glazes that look weathered and feel slightly rough. Angular forms built up from slabs of clay. Thin glaze letting the clay beneath show through. Each one is either lighter or heavier than it looks, and that gap is most of the impression.

Rolling clay into slabs and assembling them is tatara-zukuri, which produces angular shapes a wheel cannot. Shaping by hand alone is tebineri, and throwing on the wheel is rokuro.
