I create my pieces using hand-building and slab techniques, valuing the generosity and expressiveness of the clay.
I use different types of clay, including coarse and fine grains, with dark clay as the base, to bring out the natural texture and feel of the earth. I don't use glazes; instead, I create material contrasts through slip decoration and silver painting. Through processes like breaking, tearing, and cutting, I meticulously finish every detail, including the cross-sectional expression, thickness, edges, and feel.
I embrace imperfections that might initially seem flawed, such as distortions, hand marks, cracks, and tears, as unique characteristics of each piece, as much as possible. Rather than aiming for identical forms, I prioritize the beautiful harmony of each piece's individuality.
I hope that when you casually pick up a piece in your daily life, you'll feel the warmth of the clay and its rich expression. Furthermore, I hope that through my work, some preconceived notions of "how things should be" might unravel a little, inspiring a gentler gaze towards your own imperfections and those of others.
I would be delighted if these pieces, each with its own unique expression, could gently become a part of your life and grow more cherished with each use.

About this Work
A small slab-built plate of black clay, fired unglazed (yakishime).
It is finished so that the texture stays, such as the rim and the natural gradation across the surface.
[Care]
RiRiN's pottery is generally made without glaze, to bring out the feel of the clay itself. Each piece is waterproofed, so you can use it with confidence as soon as it arrives.
The waterproofing settles down little by little with daily use. Once water no longer beads on the surface, we recommend sealing it (medome), or briefly dipping the piece in water before you use it.
Oil leaves marks even with the waterproofing, but they blend in gradually over repeated use.
The more you use it, the softer the look of the clay becomes, growing into a texture all its own. Enjoy it as a piece that grows with you, little by little, in your daily life.
