Makai Rice Bowl, 4.5-sun No.3 — Okinawa

A "4.5-sun makai" carefully fired by Yokotaya Kiln in the traditional technique. "Makai" is Okinawan dialect for a bowl — a rice bowl — and a traditional form. It looks solid, yet the charm is an exquisite roundness that settles comfortably into the hand when you hold it.
At approximately 13.5cm across (4.5 sun), this is the classic, most useful size for an adult's everyday rice bowl. It is good for a light heap of rice, of course, and equally for ochazuke, a soup full of ingredients, or a mini donburi. A piece fit to become a fixture at the table, where the warmth of handwork makes every meal richer and better.
