No two waves are ever the same.

This is a Lazuli piece shaped like a single drop spilled from the surface of the water, holding the look of that one moment.

“Yoake” is Lazuli’s signature series, evoking the moment light first breaks over a dark surface of water.

Glaze shifting from deep lapis blue to pale blue, together with a gently flowing wave pattern, creates a single landscape within the plate.

~ A Droplet of Landscape for Your Table ~

A droplet plate of about 16 × 11.5cm.

Set petits fours, macarons or seasonal fruit on it for teatime.

It is an easy, unfussy size for everyday use as well, for side dishes or a few nibbles.

Swing the tip of the droplet left or right, or shift the angle a little.
How you place it changes the look of the plate, bringing quiet movement to the usual table.

Fill it generously, or leave space on purpose and let the wave pattern show through.

Depending on the mood of the day and the dish, you can enjoy the droplet form and the wave landscape however you like.

~ No Two Waves Are Alike ~

The wave pattern comes from an original technique developed through repeated trial and error: the prototype of the wave is formed from the clay itself, and its relief is transferred onto the surface of the plate.

Layered over this is zogan inlay, in which clay of a different colour is set into the surface, giving a depth unlike painted decoration and a three-dimensional wave that shifts as it catches the light.

Glaze is then sprayed in layers, and in the gradation from deep lapis blue to pale blue the light of daybreak and the shifting colours of nature are reflected.

How the pattern emerges and how deeply the glaze pools differ slightly from piece to piece.

About the Character of Handmade Work

Because each piece is made by hand, the colouring and the way the wave pattern appears vary from one to the next.

You may also see variation in the depth and shade of the glaze, crystalline patches, black specks, pinholes, and grains of iron.

Please enjoy these too, as marks unique to pottery born of clay, glaze and flame.

~ Three Series, Three Landscapes ~

The droplet plate comes in three series: “Yoake”, “Socho” and “Gengetsu”.

“Yoake”, shifting from deep lapis blue to pale blue, reflects the moment light first breaks over dark water.

“Socho”, moving from translucent turquoise to deep lapis blue, calls to mind clear water glittering in morning light.

“Gengetsu”, with gentle waves rising through a soft white, reflects a still surface of water lit by moonlight.

Within the same droplet form, each holds the landscape of a different hour, different in colour and in light.
