Your fingers catch naturally in the twist, so the mug stays steady even with a drink in it.

Rather than making the piece itself heavier than it needs to be, the aim was for it to come to the right weight once a drink is poured.
Because it is a mug used almost every day, that feeling in use is what mattered.

For Ooze Brown, a metal that comes out black-brown is brushed over a base of soft ivory glaze.

In the firing the black-brown bleeds into the glaze, running slowly as it builds light and dark.

In places it bleeds to a pale tan; in others a deep, near-black stays.
How it runs and how the colour deepens differs from piece to piece inside the kiln, so even made the same way, no two come out with the same expression.

A gentle ivory ground, with the settled restraint of black-brown.

It is not a showy piece, but it sits easily with food, with drinks and with other pieces, finished in a colour that is easy to use at the daily table.

Its capacity is about 260ml filled to the brim.
