Shell Motif Bowl, 7-sun — Okinawa

A 7-sun bowl from Edome Pottery, on which a "shell motif" recalling the rich seas of Okinawa is drawn with real dynamism. Against the plain, warm texture of the clay, the motif rendered in free brushwork shows well, bringing to the table a freshness like a comfortable sea breeze.
Its unhurried size of approximately 21cm across (7 sun) suits a simmered dish or salad bowl for a crowd, and equally pasta or a donburi. The warmth only handwork gives wraps the food, and the plate brings richness to the daily table.
