I am committed to using glazes made from Karatsu clay and natural ash, and I create pieces that emphasize the inherent character of the clay, valuing natural and spontaneous expressions.
"Utsuwa no Yukue (Where the Potteries Go towards in Japanese)" was the title of a solo exhibition I held previously. I wanted to focus on the "vessel" as a singular, formed object, rather than simply creating under the general category of "vessels."
As a theme for my work, I made this phrase my brand name.
1996: Built a kiln at home and began creating.
Currently, I continue to make pottery in Yokosuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture.

About this Work
This matcha bowl features a double glaze, with an unohu glaze (beige) over an onita glaze (dark brown), resulting in a calm blackish-brown hue.
It has a plump, rounded shape with a smoothly crafted rim that is easy to drink from.
The ash-based glaze creates unique color variations on each bowl, offering an enjoyable "landscape" (keshiki).
Its form fits comfortably in the hand, making it easy to handle.
