Seagrass-patterned Yunomi Teacup, Vermilion

Born in 1982 in Tokoname, Aichi Prefecture, a region long renowned for its teapots. His family business was also pottery. In 2010, he graduated from the Ceramics Arts Department of Tokoname High School. In 2014, he studied architecture at Daido University, moving away from pottery. Although he took on a job, he soon returned to the world of ceramics. In 2017, he completed his studies at the Tokoname Tou no Mori Ceramic Art Research Institute. At the same time, he became an independent artist specializing in teapots and other tea ceremony utensils, separate from the family business.

While cherishing the traditions of Tokoname ware, his work is characterized by sophisticated designs that incorporate a modern sensibility. The moment you pick up one of his pieces, you are struck by its lightness and the exquisite precision of the tea strainer. The light, thinly crafted teapots offer a surprising fit, and their feel in the hand is so familiar it's almost an extension of your own.

Tokoname ware is known for its red clay and highly permeable glazes. He leverages this Tokoname red clay, valuing the warmth that emanates from the earth itself. Using this clay, he crafts teapots that evoke a genuine sense of relaxation and warmth when held. The natural, rustic texture of the clay and the soft feel visible after firing envelop the user.
