About this Work
Shimizu Yayoi's Mug (Button) is a yakishime mug with a neat, straight-sided shape, finished with a small round button and a thin line. This one shifts from a reddish brown to a dark brown at the rim, and the black-brown handle pulls the whole piece together. Enjoy the texture of the clay that comes from firing without glaze, and the one-of-a-kind scene made by the flame. It holds about 200 ml. It suits coffee, black tea and Japanese tea, and is just the right size to reach for every day. Unglazed yakishime pottery settles into a soft, moist-looking surface the more it is used, and its character deepens over time.
