After graduating from Musashino Art Junior College I was drawn to Bizen ware, and I now hand-build pieces that add color to everyday life.
I treasure a warmth that settles into the hands of the person using it, and I pursue forms that are simple and still have real presence.

About this Work
Shimizu Yayoi's Triangle Cup & Saucer is a yakishime set where you can enjoy the scene of hidasuki all over. Hidasuki is a technique in which straw is wrapped around the piece before firing so that scarlet lines rise up on the clay. On the light clay-colored cup, scarlet flows from the rim down the body, and on the triangular saucer with rounded corners, free lines like brushstrokes run again and again. The pattern of dots and lines carved into the cup body and the small feet on the base are full of the joy of handwork down to the details. The cup holds about 130 ml. Use it for espresso or Japanese tea; the saucer also works as an individual plate. Unglazed yakishime pottery settles into a soft, moist-looking surface the more it is used, and its character deepens over time.
